Landscape edging, also known as garden edging or lawn edging, is defining a border within your yard. It is anything that divides two distinct areas, an example of which is having planter beds on one side and gravel on the other. Now, the question is this – How to landscape edging?

The simplest type of landscape edging is a shallow trench cut at a lawn’s edge. Landscape edging or garden bordering materials are available at reasonable costs and provide for a variety of styles. It is important that you consider your landscape, your budget, and your creativity when choosing a border. Also, be sure to include design when considering landscape edging as it can add another dimension to your area.
In order to install a landscape edging, you first have to draw your plans on paper. This will help you view your edging in small scale. Then, hammer stakes into the ground where you want to use metal edging. Align the edging so that it travels in front of the stakes, and continue around the perimeter of the bed. Bend the metal edging back and forth to make a crease at the end of the bend, and cut off the unwanted portion. You can even place landscaping rocks around the outside of the bed.
Landscape edging cuts down on unwanted weeds. It also keeps lawn grass from invading the garden beds. Without landscape edging, you will be constantly pulling grass out of your planting beds. Also, a form of landscape edging, called the mowing strip, allows you to mow borders up close so as to avoid having to use string trimmers.
Landscape edging isn’t absolutely necessary if you cut a narrow trough an inch or so deeper than the grass roots all around your beds and maintain it weekly. But then again, what’s there to lose in trying to know how to landscape edging?
