Since I have a balcony now, I want to raise some plants that are pretty, hardy, and I can harvest from( fruits and veg) . Please suggest things from window boxes, to dwarf trees.

Mulch not only looks great, but it serves a few purposes. One, it chokes out weeds. It also retains moisture and a good soil temperature. But that doesn’t mean you need to replace your mulch every year. What you should look for in a plant bed is to make sure that your mulch is at least 2-4 inches deep. If it is, then you don’t need to put new mulch in, what you might need to do is what’s called fluffing. And that’s taking a rake and fluff the mulch. Because after about a year or so, it can form a hard crust on top and you need to break that up. If it does form a hard crust, that means it won’t be retaining the moisture. So just take the rake, and fluff up your mulch, and not only will it now retain moisture, but it will look like brand new mulch. A great way to make your plant beds look great!
