I am making a raised bed to plant herbs in. What is the best soil for it? I plan to put landscape fabric down and then the soil and then plants. Location gets full Texas sun.
Oops! I forgot to ask what is the best mulch to put over the plants after I plant them? Can you use cedar mulch or will it not be safe for edibles?

I’ve seen the many different choices I have to light my indoor herb garden, but nothing really tells me what the better choice is. I’ve decided on flouresent just because making ends meet is difficult enough WITHOUT a huge power bill, but I am having a cunnundrum with the different bulbs. There are artificial sunlight bulbs, but also bulbs made specificly for plants and aquariums. I know plants absorb light from the red and blue spectrum which is why they reflect green, but would singling out the specific spectrums, or providing the same full spectrum as they would normally receive be the better choice?
